In addition to my post “The Library”, I thought I’d post some of the books that Macy really loves. Some of these are found in Jim Trelease’s book, and some are not.
One thing I’ve noticed – and I don’t know if it is true of all babies/toddlers, or just mine – is that there are some books that Macy grows to love. The first few times, she’s not super interested, but after an initial two or three readings, she is hooked. These have become some of her favorites:
Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs! by Sandra Boynton
Any of the Priddy books –
Natural Baby Play
Happy Baby Words
B is for Bear
Good Night Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann
The Everything Book by Denise Fleming
Dr. Seuss’s ABC
The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton
My First Word Book by Angela Wilkes
Moo, Baa, La La La! by Sandra Boynton
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Ten Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth
And these are books she fell in love with from the minute I opened the first page:
Please, Baby, Please by Spike Lee & Tanya Lewis Lee
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Blue Hat, Green Hat by Sandra Boynton
Any of the Spot books by Eric Hill – Spot Goes to School, Spot Goes to the Park, Where’s Spot?
123 by Katie Cox
But Not the Hippopotamus by Sandra Boynton
The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss
Go, Dog, Go! by P.D. Eastman
One other thing I should point out is all of these are board books. I’ve found that she prefers (and plus it is just easier) to have a board book in her hands. That way, she can turn the pages by herself, maybe chew a little, and the book is still in tact. She also likes books that have a touch aspect to them or are squishy. One of my favorite gifts someone gave her when she was born was a set of 4 soft books by Sassy, including a book that you can put photos of family members in. This way, Macy is always looking at pictures of the family she doesn’t get to see as often as she would like.
Macy, you want Mommy to read you a book?
