Today when Macy woke up, there were presents underneath the tree.
She first said, “Elsa’s presents!” The last birthday party we went to was in November and was for Macy’s friend Elsa.
I said, “No, those aren’t for Elsa. Those are for you, Macy.”
Her eyes lit up. “Macy’s birthday!”
I laughed. “No, it’s not your birthday. It’s Jesus’ birthday tomorrow and Mommy and Daddy bought you a few small presents we can open.”
She smiled. “Jesus birthday party!”
The whole day we talked about Jesus’ birthday and how special it was. We even got to eat a special sprinkled donut to celebrate. Thank you, Jesus.
This evening we went to a candlelight Christmas Eve service. Macy asked me where we were going and I told her we were going to church to worship Jesus.
“Jesus birthday party!”
This day couldn’t get any better.
She got to wear her beautiful red dress that Cook-Cook and Buddy sent for Christmas (I’m horrible, I didn’t take a single photo – but I promise to take some tomorrow when she wears it again) and we all went to church.
When we picked her up from the nursery, I asked her if she had a good time. “I like Jesus birthday party!”
And then tonight in her pj’s almost ready for bed, she saw her presents underneath the tree again. She went over and looked at them.
And said, “I give my presents to Jesus.”
That was a moment I’ll never forget.
I told her that’s what Christmas is all about. And that I was really proud of her.
Then I noticed her stacking all her presents up on the coffee table. “What are you doing, Macy?”
“I help Jesus open his presents.”
At least she’s honest.
Merry Christmas Eve. Happy birthday Jesus.
