They Say It’s Your Birthday

Everybody has a mom.  Or a mother, a mommy, a mama.  I was just fortunate enough to get an awesome one.

Today’s is my mom’s birthday.  Since we can’t be there to help her eat cake, I thought I’d post a few pictures.

Two days after Macy was born.  I look terrible, but my mom looks great.

First day in London.  We hit a park while we were waiting to see the Changing of the Guard.

Red telephone booth in front of the British Museum.  I think Macy is eyeballing her daddy’s hot dog.

On Macy’s 1st birthday.  We were so blessed to get to spend this time with my mom and dad.

My mom was the kind of mom who volunteered at every school that I went to – millions of hours spent shelving books, attending PTO meetings, making homemade goods for parties (or buying them from Sam’s? :)), chaperoning field trips, etc.  In high school, she attended endless football games, drill team competitions, and shows (including rehearsals).  When I went to college, I probably talked to her at least once a day for some reason or another – I couldn’t find something in my apartment, wasn’t sure when to use hot or cold water in the laundry machine, or to tell her I was coming home for the weekend.  I always had the kind of mom that would drop whatever she was doing to talk to me.  Even after Jeff and I got married, she would take me out to lunch while Jeff was teaching and I was in-between classes and invite us over for dinner on weeknights so we didn’t have to cook.  Since moving overseas, my parents have taken multiple plane rides to three different continents just to see us.  She was an immense help when Macy was born, offering to hold her during her long nights of crying so that I could get some sleep.

All this to say, I love you Mom.  Happy birthday.  I hope you have a wonderful day, that you like our present, and that you have a fun time having dinner with the Creed’s, Hick’s and Spore’s.  Can’t wait to see you next month.

  1. Amy, thank you for the wonderful words you sent for my birthday. It is a privilege and honor to be your mother and I loved doing all the things I did for you then and I love doing stuff now for you and Macy (Jeff, too).
I love you so much, mom
